James Stephenson

James Stephenson

Chief Executive Officer

With an extensive background in chemical manufacturing and processing, James’ career spans both sides of the Atlantic. He worked for Dow Corning (now Dow) for more than 16 years in the UK and United States, where he became global product manager for its electronics and advanced materials business.

He also led an internal start-up for the development of silicon nanoparticle-based inks for printed electronics. Since then, he was the general manager/managing director for Polyone Corporation (now Avient) and the vice president, Global Business Development, at Carlisle Fluid Technologies.

In 2020, he joined Promethean Particles as CEO. He holds an M. Eng in chemical engineering from Swansea University and an MBA from Manchester Business School.

Selina Ambrose

Selina Ambrose

Technical Manager

A current board member of the Nanotechnology Industries Association (NIA), Selina holds a PhD in chemical engineering, specialising in the continuous-flow hydrothermal synthesis of functional nanomaterials.

With more than 10 years of experience in the nanotechnology field, she leads the technical team at Promethean, managing the company’s research and development activities, which includes new product development.

Lewis Neve

Lewis Neve

Engineering Manager

With an M. Eng degree in chemical engineering, Lewis leads the engineering team and is responsible for the design, build and maintenance of our continuous-flow reactor systems. Coupled with the knowledge of chemistry and materials from our technical scientists, Lewis provides engineering solutions to overcome scale-up and operational challenges. This has allowed Promethean to successfully translate proof-of-concept results to commercially viable production volumes.

Administrative/Finance Manager

Sonia has more than 20 years of office management experience, spread over the manufacturing and retail sectors. She joined Promethean in 2018 where she is now responsible for all of our office and financing operations and procedures.

Dr. Jack Turner

Dr. Jack Turner

Senior Technical Scientist

Jack holds a PhD in chemistry, specialising in the elucidation of reaction mechanisms via time-resolved spectroscopy. In his role at Promethean, Jack is involved in internal R&D projects aimed at expanding Promethean’s catalogue of nanomaterial products, as well as designing and executing bespoke research projects for our commercial clients. He is also our technical lead on the Horizon 2020 CARMOF and NEMOSINE projects, focused on development of metal organic framework (MOF) materials for carbon capture and cultural heritage preservation, respectively.

Senior Technical Scientist

Emily joined Promethean in 2018 and is also our health and safety coordinator. She obtained a PhD in natural sciences for her work on polymeric nano-sensors and has over a decade of experience in nanotechnology. At Promethean, Emily is primarily involved in the development and manufacture of metal oxides, including novel doped materials. She currently leads the technical work on a range of commercial projects, as well as the Innovate-UK funded ICELIP project, where the aim is to develop a super-hydrophobic coating for the aerospace sector.

Ryan McMullen

Production Engineer

Ryan holds a B. Eng in chemical engineering and an MSc in engineering management. He leads our material production campaigns and is well-versed in regulations pertaining to transporting hazardous goods, which allows Promethean to work with and supply customers globally while adhering to national and international regulations.

George Nichols

Technical Scientist

George joined Promethean as a research scientist in 2019, after graduating with an MSc degree in chemistry. In his role at Promethean, George is involved in several R&D projects, most of which are focused on developing copper nanoparticles for antimicrobial or printed electronics applications.

Christina joined Promethean after completing her MRes degree in chemistry at Nottingham Trent University, specialising in the synthesis and characterisation of nanoparticles. At Promethean, her work is principally on the research and development of metal oxide nanomaterials.

Alan Lamb

Chairman of the Board

Alan has broad experience with technology businesses, ranging from those in their early stages to large public companies. He led the management buyout of Computer Security International from Advent, which was acquired by Racal Electronics, where he was CEO of Racal IT Security.

Over the last decades, Alan has developed spin-out companies from UK universities as a mentor, chairman and non-executive director. In addition to Promethean Particles, he is also the chairman for Gyrometric Systems, which provides condition monitoring for offshore wind turbines

He holds a degree in engineering science and an MBA.

Ed Lester

Technology Director

Ed is part of the Advanced Materials Research Group and the Lady Trent Professor of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, at the University of Nottingham. He has a PhD in chemical engineering.

For more than 20 years, Ed has researched many topics, including power generation and fuel combustion. But one area of research — on continuous supercritical fluid reactors — led to the launch of Promethean Particles, where he is the technical director.

He also works on projects where his research interests overlap: chemicals and energy from biomass waste, through gasification, supercritical water oxidation, hydrothermal extraction or thermal upgrading.

Graham has worked for more than 20 years as both an executive and non-executive director in diverse industry sectors, including graphic arts, financial services, document security, web publishing, e-learning and renewable energy.

Graham currently heads up two technology companies — Oxonica Ltd. and Signum Technologies — alongside non-executive positions with the Foresight Group (a leading infrastructure and private equity investment partnership), with Mercia Power Response Holdings (reserve power generation) and with Promethean Particles.
