Stephenson

James Stephenson
With an extensive background in chemical manufacturing and processing, James’ career spans both sides of the Atlantic. He worked for Dow Corning (now Dow) for more than 16 years in the UK and United States, where he became global product manager for its electronics and advanced materials business.
He also led an internal start-up for the development of silicon nanoparticle-based inks for printed electronics. Since then, he was the general manager/managing director for Polyone Corporation (now Avient) and the vice president, Global Business Development, at Carlisle Fluid Technologies.
In 2020, he joined Promethean Particles as CEO. He holds an M. Eng in chemical engineering from Swansea University, an MBA from Manchester Business School, and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

Paul Denney
Paul joined Promethean Particles as Chief Financial Officer in September 2025. He established his career in financial management with the IT outsourcing business, Electronic Data Systems Inc. (now part of Hewlett Packard), working in the UK, Spain and Latin America. He subsequently broadened his international career in the data and analytics sector, managing in-house M&A teams at both Experian plc and at Callcredit Information Group. Most recently, Paul was CFO for 6 years at Xeros Technology Group plc, an AIM-listed greentech business and at an early-stage life sciences spin-out from Newcastle University.
Paul is a CIMA-qualified accountant and has an MBA from the London Business School.

Selina Ambrose
Selina has more than 14 years of experience in the development and commercialisation of advanced material technologies. After being promoted into her current role in 2022,
Selina now leads the product management function at Promethean, acting as the critical interface between external needs of customers and collaboration partners, and the internal capabilities to deliver them. Prior to this, Selina held the position of Promethean’s technical manager, where she played a key role in successfully winning over £3.5 million in non-dilutive, grant funding for the company to deliver a range of innovative R&D projects.
Selina holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Nottingham, where her thesis focused on the continuous-flow hydrothermal synthesis of functional nanomaterials. She is currently an advisory board member of the University of Nottingham Sustainable Chemistry CDT.

Owen Cartmell
Owen joined Promethean Particles in 2023 to lead the engineering and production functions and accelerate the delivery of our products to our customers. Owen has more than 10 years experience in the chemical industry, previously working in the FMCG and Fine & Specialty Chemical sectors for Reckitt Benckiser and Thermo Fisher Scientific.
He holds an MSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Leeds, and a BSc in Chemistry also from the University of Leeds. He is an Associate Member of the IChemE, working towards Chartership.

Leah Matsinha
Leah joined Promethean’s R&D team as a Senior Technical Scientist in 2024. She is an experienced MOF synthetic chemist who has led projects in both academia and industry, with applications including catalysis, CO2 activation, and CO2 capture & sequestration. Before Promethean, she worked as part of the R&D team at Concrete4Change, and also held research and academic positions at the University of South Wales and the University of Johannesburg, respectively.
Leah holds a PhD in Chemistry from University of Cape Town. She is also a fellow of the Royal Society’s Future Leaders: African Independent Researcher (FLAIR) programme.

Ed Lester
Ed is part of the Advanced Materials Research Group and the Lady Trent Professor of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, at the University of Nottingham. He has a PhD in chemical engineering.
For more than 20 years, Ed has researched many topics, including power generation and fuel combustion. But one area of research — on continuous supercritical fluid reactors — led to the launch of Promethean Particles, where he is the chief scientfic officer.
He also works on projects where his research interests overlap: chemicals and energy from biomass waste, through gasification, supercritical water oxidation, hydrothermal extraction or thermal upgrading.

Rebecca Ryder-Brown
Rebecca joined Promethean’s R&D team in September 2022 as a techncial scientist, where she is focused on exploring the continuous flow synthesis of various nanomaterials. Rebecca also assumed the role of health and safety coordinator, utilising her prior industrial experience.
Rebecca obtained a first-class BSc (Hons) in Chemistry with a year in industry from the University of Liverpool. Previously she worked as research scientist for Ineos-Inovyn in PVC Additives R&D.

Scott Priest
Scott joined Promethean in 2022, following an EngD in Chemical Engineering that was sponsored by Promethean. Scott’s thesis was focused on the optimisation of the synthesis of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for carbon capture and storage applications.
At Promethean, Scott is responsible for the identification and assessment of the potential translation of MOFs to continuous flow. He also assists in assessing the performance of our new MOF-specific reactor designs.

Joanne Stephenson
Joanne joined Promethean in September 2022, originally to provide some temporary administration support. She has since become a permanent member of the team, adopting the position of office manager, that encompasses a variey of responsibilities including finance, HR, and managing our regulated shipping processes.
Prior to joining Promethean, Joanne’s professional experience is wide and varied. She has worked for a number of chemical and semiconductor manufacturers as well as numerous hospital systems where she specialised in IT learning and development.

Kale Cooke
Kale joined Promethean in February 2024 as a laboratory technician. Kale previously gained experience working in a lab at Endeavour Speciality Chemicals as a Production Chemist.
Kale graduated with a first-class MChem (Hons) in Chemistry from the University of Leicester in 2022.

David van Gelder Adjar
David joined Promethean Particles in September 2024 as a Process Development Engineer, where he is focused on bridging the process gap between the R&D and Operations teams. He is also focused on improving current processes and bringing on board new technologies that will increase the capacity of Promethean’s current capabilities. He has experience working in engineering teams having spent three years as an engineer at ExxonMobil.
He holds an MSc in Chemical and Process Engineering from the University of Chemistry and Technology – Prague (Czech Republic) , and a BSc in Chemical Engineering also from University of Chemistry and Technology – Prague. He is an Affiliate Member of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (AIChemE), working towards Chartership.

Andreas joined Promethean Particles in September 2024 after finishing his chemical engineering studies at Imperial College London. His final year project involved designing an advanced MOF production plant.
As a manufacturing engineer at Promethean, Andreas is responsible for ensuring our large-scale production processes are operated safely, and for making continuous improvements to throughput, quality and operational efficiency.

She holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Thapar University, where her research centred on the development and comprehensive evaluation of nano-structured carbon sorbents for post-combustion carbon capture.

He completed his PhD in Chemistry at the University of Nottingham, where his thesis focused on the synthesis of defective MOFs for photocatalysis. He also holds a master’s degree from the University of York’s Green Chemistry Centre of Excellence, with research focused on recycling of polymers.

He holds an MSC in Information Technology, which has provided him with strong foundations in process automation, project methodology, and management; these skills all play a key role in Chigozie’s day-to-day responsibilities of monitoring equipment, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining operational safety and quality.

In 2025, Sam joined Promethean Particles as HSE manager and continues the company’s strong commitment to health, safety and the environment.

Georgia Rowe
Following this, Georgia went on to achieve her PhD at the University of Birmingham funded by the Faraday Institution, where her research focused on developing MOFs for next-generation lithium-sulfur batteries. During her PhD, she strengthened her research skills through a collaboration and placement with the University of Technology in Dresden. Additionally, she gained unique insight into energy policy through a placement at the House of Commons Library as an Energy Advisor.

Andrew Jordan
Prior to joining Promethean, Andrew held positions at both GSK and Charnwood Discovery in chemical process development. Most recently he has worked as a chemistry project manager in the Contract Research Organisation (CRO) sector.
Andrew holds a BSc and PhD from Dublin City University and completed four years of postdoctoral research at the University of Nottingham in green and sustainable chemistry. He is a member of the RSC and associate member of the Association for Project Management.

Prior to joining Promethean, Annie worked as an office manager and team coordinator, gaining broad experience in internal operations and people-focused support. She holds a BSc in Environmental Earth Science and an MSc in Palaeobiology, and brings analytical capabilities to her role, supported by a data analytics qualification.

At Promethean, Eve supports the operations team in technical and compliance-related functions. She is also responsible for overseeing the company’s shipping processes, ensuring full compliance with regulations governing the transport of dangerous and non-dangerous goods.

Jamie Atkinson
Jamie joined Promethean’s R&D team in September 2025 as a laboratory technician and now carries out various characterisation work as well as assisting with ongoing syntheses.
Jamie recently graduated from the University of Leeds with an MChem in Chemistry where he synthesised and developed bimetallic nanoparticles supported on graphene aerogels for use as catalysts in continuous flow reactions. During his time at university, he also completed a year in industry at the Lubrizol Corporation in Hazelwood as an applied and strategic research student chemist investigating engine oil additive interactions with contaminants and surfaces.
